What non-profit statutes contain
Whatever the member state, non-profit statutes generally cover a set of fundamental clauses:
- The name, purpose and non-profit aim of the organisation.
- The registered office and duration (often unlimited).
- The conditions for joining, resigning and removing members.
- The composition and powers of the bodies (general meeting, board, executive committee).
- The rules for convening and voting at meetings.
- The organisation's resources and the rules for transferring assets on dissolution.
Well-drafted statutes avoid the ambiguities that can deadlock a meeting or weaken a funding application.
