What a mission statement is
The mission statement sets out the organisation's identity and strategy. It answers fundamental questions:
- Why does the organisation exist? (mission, starting observation, reason for being)
- Which values guide its action?
- Which audiences does it aim to serve?
- What concrete activities does it carry out, in the short and medium term?
- What goals and success indicators does it set itself?
It is a living document, to be revised regularly, useful both internally (mobilising volunteers) and externally (convincing funders).
